Petra the Rose-Red City
Match me such marvel save in Eastern clime, A rose-red city half as old as time. Dean Burgon
Petra, which means "stone" in Greek, is perhaps the most spectacular ancient city remaining in the modern world, and certainly a must-see for visitors to Jordan and the Middle East.
Petra As an antiquity indeed continues to bring together people as travelers globe-trotters, explorers, historians and archeologists from the four corners of the world, in spirit of cross-cultural cooperation as it was a prime destination for adventurers by the 1830s.
The dazzling colours and formations of the rocks are appreciated one does not have to be a specialist in any field though to appreciate it because, once inside of it, you will be quickly awe-struck and you will want to know the how, why and where about it.
Some scholars suggest that Nabataeans inhabited Petra more than 2200 years ago, they came from the central or southern part of the Arabian Peninsula and chose this location for their kingdom not only for its fortress of rock cliffs, but also for its available water supply, because the existence of a city means assuring the availability of fundamental resources especially water and safety.
