The outer Siq suddenly opens out to the left to reveal one of the strangest conglomerations of monuments in Petra, the so-called Streets of Façades. Whether these pink-grey fronts are tombs or houses is still a matter of debate. They form the most remarkable collection of Assyrian I and II façades in Petra. Most likely they are among the earlier works of the Nabataeans, most of them have simple rectilinear carved slit ornament above the door, though one or more do boast a primitive classical pediment.
