Corinthian Tomb

Corinthian Tomb

It is composed of two parts stemming from different traditions. The upper is a direct imitation of the Khazneh but doorways inserted into the left-hand bays of this 80-foot wide façade totally disregard the symmetry, while the lower was the inspiration for the Bab el Siq Triclinium, with the usual Nabataean Classical multiplicity of lines and incidental projections. It is also related to the Broken Pediment Tomb and the Renaissance Tomb. It could be that the architect was trying to combine the Hellenism of the Khazneh with the local architectural tradition.

The tomb serves as a link in the architectural chain of development which was inspired by the Khazneh and reached its ultimate resolution in the dramatic simplicity of the Deir.
