"... a climb of fifteen minutes .... at the top the water falls....falling with that clear sound into a shallow, frothing pool..." Lawrence of Arabia
The weird wind-sculpted hills of Wadi Rum stand like foreboding guards upon the pale sands, measuring over 130 kilometers in length, they are the result of enormous upheaval through the surface of the earth probably several million years ago.
Reaching heights of 1754 meters, the cliffs stand like skyscrapers in the hot sand along either side of the Wadi. Hues of sand and rock colors are ever-changing depending on the hour of the day, Purple at dawn; the cliffs turn mauve, then brown, at noon fading to the fawn of an old sepia-tinted photograph. After midday the colors flow the other way from brown back to mauve, orange, purple, a hot red at dusk to black, and finally silver under a full moon which many people consider is rum at its most spectacular.
Traveling through Wadi Rum brings a liberating sense of possibility and awe for the stunning country. Explore the canyons, bizarre rock formations and dunes of Wadi Rum on exhilarating jeep tours and bumpy camel rides and experience traditional Bedouin hospitality at the Private Desert Camps.
